Lela Carrithers Earles
Class of 1940
Lela Carrithers Earles, 86, of rural Vigo
County passed away Wednesday April 10, 2007,
after a long-term illness at the her home. She
was born July 27, 1920, in Nevins Township of
Vigo County to William Carrithers and Althea Hix
Carrithers.
She married her husband of 62 years, Charles O.
Earles, on March 21, 1945 and he survives. Other
survivors include three sons, James Earles and
his wife Glenda of Plainfield, William Earles
and his wife Barbara of Cape Coral, Fla., and
Paul Earles; two grandchildren, Paul Earles and
his wife Virginia of Trenton, Ohio, and Matthew
C.E. Earles of Cape Coral, Fla.; one
granddaughter, Nancy Lagsdon and her husband
Greg of Plainfield; one great-grandson, Cameron
Earles; two great-granddaughters, Hollie D.
Earles and Samantha Lagsdon; brothers, Malcolm
Carrithers of Terre Haute, William Carrithers and
his wife Pauline of Terre Haute; and several
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents; three brothers, James, Raymond and
Howard Carrithers; and one sister, Wilma
Carrithers Braut.
During World War II, she was employed by
Kingsberry Ammunition Plant at LaPorte as a
Personal Security Investigator. Later, she
worked for RCA in Indianapolis and CBS in Terre
Haute. Her main interest was her family. She was
a lifetime member of the Sulphur Springs Church
of Christ.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the
Roselawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be
held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home
with Samuel Miller officiating. Burial will
follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting
Nurses Association. |
