Ray A. Carter
Class of 1939
Ray A.
Carter, 84 of Brazil, died at 6:54 a.m. Tuesday,
Jan. 11, 2005, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Born April
12, 1920, in Vigo County, Ind., he was the son
of E.F. Carter and Bertha Archer Carter.
He
graduated from
Fontanet High School. Following high
school, Ray entered military service with the
U.S. Army in February of 1942. During World War
II he served with the 3rd Armored Division in
Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland
campaigns. He was honorably discharged from
military service in September of 1945.
He married
Ruth Sampson on Aug. 22, 1948, at First
Christian Church of Brazil. Ray and his wife
worked their farm in Clay County. He was also a
bus driver for the school corporation for 15
years and he served as Dick Johnson Twp. Trustee
from 1954 to 1962.
Ray was a
charter member of the Dick Johnson Twp.
Volunteer Fire Dept. Ray was a member of the
Fairview Christian Church, the Clay County Farm
Bureau, Chairman for the ASCS Soil Conservation
committee, and the American Legion.
He was
preceded in death by his parents and infant twin
brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Carter.
He is
survived by his wife Ruth Carter; one daughter,
Jean Ann Carter; one brother, Roy Carter; one
sister, Betty Stoms and husband Russell all of
Brazil; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation
will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral
Home and before funeral services Friday. Funeral
services will be 10 a.m. Friday with Pastors
Steve Ford and Doug Parkey officiating. Burial
will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dick
Johnson Twp. Fire Dept. or Fairview Christian
Church. Envelopes will be available at the
funeral home. |
