"Dick" Lawhorn
Class of 1940
TERRE HAUTE — Charles “Dick” Lawhorn, 84, of
Terre Haute died at 5:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25,
2006, in his residence. He was a conductor with
Conrail for 34 years. He was born May 17, 1922,
in Coal Bluff to Alonzo Lawhorn and Lillie
Peterson Lawhorn.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Blossom
Miller Lawhorn; one daughter, Marilyn Richmond
of Terre Haute; one grandson, Kevin Starr and
wife Vickie of Terre Haute; and one
great-grandson, Craig Starr of Robinson, Ill. He
was preceded in death by sisters, Ida Dorr and
Ethel Ruddock; brothers, Raymond, Thomas,
William, Cecil and Emerson “Buss” Lawhorn; and
one grandson, Michael Starr.
He graduated from Fontanet High School and
served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He
loved to garden and he also farmed 80 acres
until his retirement in 1984.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Mattox-Wood
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Herb
officiating. Burial is in Bee Ridge Cemetery in
Brazil. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services
Friday. |
