Second Terre Haute Soldier Dies in Viet Nam
The
body of PFC. Herman Richard Meneely, 21, who was
killed in South Viet Nam last week when he
stepped on a land mine during a battle, will be
returned to Terre Haute for funeral services.

The
21-year old soldier was the second man from
Terre Haute to die in the Viet Nam war. Capt.
Eugene Fowler of Terre Haute, who died in April,
1965, in a similar land mine explosion, was the
first.
Meneely had
been in Viet Nam only a few weeks when he was
killed. He entered the Army in September, 1965,
and was sent to Viet Nam May 14. He was a member
of Co. C 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry, First
Infantry Division.
Meneely had attended Fontanet and Gerstmeyer
High Schools. He is survived by the wife, Mrs.
Annabelle Meneely and his daughter, Shelly Kay,
2424 High Avenue; his parents Mr. and Mrs.
Arnold Meneely, 1515 Ash Street Terre Haute; one
sister, Mrs. Lona Boyce, Terre Haute, and one
half-brother William Winn, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are pending at the Thomas
Funeral Home.
He
was buried at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Section
14, Block S, grave #23.
