Mildred E.
Allen Monts, 91, of Fontanet, passed away
Thursday, April 23, 2009. She was born April 16,
1918, in Fontanet, to Harry I. Allen, who passed
away Dec. 29, 1979, and Mary C. Swafford, who
passed away Dec. 2, 1978.
She married James L. Monts when she was in her
20’s, he passed away July 7, 1966. She also was
preceded in death by one brother, Robert L.
Allen, on Dec. 25, 1984; one sister, Geraldine
Allen Lighty, on Jan. 21, 1996.
Survivors include two nephews and three nieces,
Robert F. Allen and wife Earlene, James L.
Allen, Shirley J. Huber and husband Kenn,
special niece, Mary A. Wilkie and husband Bob,
and Debi K. Fisher and husband Rick; 11
great-nephews and great-nieces; 14
great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces; and
one cousin, Jack Stringfellow
She worked at Union Hospital for 41 years, and
was the longest employed employee at the time of
her retirement in 1985. She began in the sewing
room and worked herself up to laundry manager.
She has been a member of the Church of the
Living Christ, later named Cross Roads. She
loved bowling, playing cards, bingo, gardening,
spending time with friends and family. She was a
devoted aunt and fill in grandmother to her
nephews and nieces and their children.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mattox-Wood
Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with the
Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Internment is at
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8
p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers donations can be
made to the Union Hospital Foundation. |
