John William Stevens

John Williams Stevens
Class of 1963

John William Stevens, 59, of Terre Haute, died Monday May 31, 2004 in his home. He worked at Ivy Hill in the maintenance department.

He was born February 22, 1945, in Terre Haute to Thomas and Eloise Wagle Stevens.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Laura Jeffrey Stevens; two sons, John William Stevens, Jr. and Matthew Thomas Stevens, both of Terre Haute; three daughters, Johnna Marie Frakes, Isabella E. Goodpastore and Loretta Lynn Forbes, all of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, Brookie Frakes, Roxanna Frakes, Danny Joe Forbes, Coty Forbes, Laura E. Forbes, Edward Goodpastore and Zeke Goodpastore; three sisters, Violet and her husband Delbert Watson of Noblesville, Nora Jane Banta and her husband Glenn of Terre Haute, and Wanda Haney and her husband Steve of Terre Haute; three brothers, Raymond Stevens and his wife Violet, Charles Stevens and his wife Margaret, all of Terre Haute, and Pete Stevens and his wife Chris of Oklahoma City; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Stacie Stevens.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and VFW Post 346. He served during the Cuban conflict and was in the Vietnam War, serving as an E5 with the 101st Airborne Rangers 502. He was also a POW during the Vietnam era.

Services are 2 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. VFW Post 346 will conduct military graveside services. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the family.
