Wayne Tilford

BLOOMINGDALE — Wayne Tilford, 80, of rural
Bloomingdale, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 3,
2011, at The Waters of Clinton. He was a manager
for F.W. Woolworth and Co. in Indiana, Illinois
and Michigan, also was the owner of Tilford’s
Variety Store in Rosedale, and was retired from
Hercules. He was born June 25, 1930, in Lyford,
to the late Alfred Tilford and Mabel Weese
Tilford. His wife of 26 years, Nova Tilford,
whom he married April 20, 1979, died Dec. 25,
2005.
Survivors include one daughter, Jan Sollars and
her husband Pug of Clinton; one stepson, Clem
Walkup of Farmer City, Ill.; two brothers, Cecil
Tilford of Louisville, Ky., and Ken Tilford of
North Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Brandy
(David) Peterson of Clinton, Lori Sollars of
Terre Haute; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey
Peterson and Ava Sollars; and several nieces and
nephews. He also was preceded in death by one
son, Duane “Buddy” Tilford in 1962.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during
the Korean War. He was a graduate of Fontanet
High School, and was a former Lions Club member.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing,
hunting and mushroom hunting. He also sold
firewood to Turkey Run campers for years.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011,
at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, 287 Main St., in
Rosedale, with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating.
Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, with
graveside military honors by Tony Kashon
American Legion Post 290 of Rosedale. Visitation
will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
